Who I am

I'm Jenn. An average mid-western woman (Read: wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, etc.). I have lived in Lincoln, NE my entire life and eventually realized that I don't regret it. I attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and am a Husker through and through. (Go Big Red!) I am a jeans wearing, classic rock and country music, pony-tail kind of girl who has a morbid sense of humor, is a touch compulsive, and a heavy user of sarcasm. Don't be fooled though, I have a deeply seeded love for all things romantic and have wanted to be a poet since I was 16. I believe in fate, signs, dreams, ghosts, and taking chances. That's me in a paragraph. (God, that sounded like a personal dating ad...may need to revise this later.)

Anyway, I digress...

So, why the blog?  Let me tell you. Whenever I say to someone that I want to be a published writer they go, "Oh - are you writing the next Great American Novel?" To which I respond, "No. Actually, I write poetry." (Crickets. So quiet, you can hear crickets.) C'mon now, we're not a bunch of chain smoking, beret wearing, espresso drinking people who snap their fingers instead of clapping. We're just folks. If it makes you feel better, you can call me a "Creative Writer". My problem is that I have a hard time sharing my stuff with the general public. I get shy and scared. This is problematic for someone who wants to publish.

In short, this is simply a place for me to tell my story about being a poet, trying to get published, and all of the shenanigans that go with it. I'll post some of my poems here as well as some other stuff - - I sure hope you enjoy tangents, anecdotes, and the like.

If you have something you want to say or share, please leave a comment on any of my posts.  I promise to read them all. Go ahead and leave your email address if you want me to write back and I'll delete it once I've safely tucked it away elsewhere.  (Unless you seem like you're one sandwich short of a picnic...then I'm gonna reserve the right to ignore you.)
