Zodiac Exercise #5 - Taurus

Hey there writing exercise! Long time, no see! To pick up where I last left off - - here we go with #5, titled...

In a bind
You call yourself independent. What you are is isolated.
Never wanting me to take the lead, but never wanting to be left behind.
I can see you debating me, but I cannot see your intent.
Will you love me so fiercely? Push me to be my best for you?
And why? For my gain or your pride?
You expect reciprocity without earning it.
Because you are stubborn...
and foolish...
and dammit, you are loyal.
This loyalty will be the tie that binds. A chain holding me to you.
And you to your independence.

  1. I like this one. I cried from the truth it told me.

I would like to publish my poetry too. How do you do it?

    1. Hey Chelsea! Well, at this point I am still in the "write, submit, repeat" phase. It can be frustrating, but that's the name of the game. Or so they tell me...

I try to set small and achievable goals, like submitting to one place once a month, and try to not put undue pressure on myself. I send my poems to friends who are interested in reading them for honest reactions. I use the Poet's Market Guide (if you don't want to buy, libraries have copies) and subscribe to Winning Writers (they send you an email with a very broad list of poetry competitions and places to submit). I started this blog as a way to hold myself accountable for finding time to write and actually having the balls to send them out into the world. It's hard, frustrating, sometimes depressing, but I still hold out faith for a "yes"!

I don't have any magic answer - believe me I've been looking for it myself - but if you're interested in sending some pieces back and forth for reading/reacting, just let me know. (You should be able to get my email from my blogger profile.)

Thanks for stopping by and best of luck!
